A Parent's Righteous Responsibility |

Before parents can teach their children right behavior, they must model God's righteousness in their own lives.
Children learn morals and values from their observations of their parents' behaviors and actions. As is often quoted, proper behavior is "caught" rather than "taught." Parents must first demonstrate righteousness in their daily living if they want their children to know the difference between right and wrong behavior. A paraphrase of 1 Peter 1:14-16 instructs parents on how to obtain the righteousness they need to pass on to their children. "As obedient parents, do not follow the passions of your former ignorance, but as God who called you is Holy, you also must be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I, the Lord God am Holy.'" |
